Childhood - The growing age

Any baby book or app will always have a growth chart or tracker inbuilt. Even when you go to the doctor for your kid's routine check-ups of vaccinations, the doctor will always ask you to measure the weight first, and there will be height charts available too.

It's not just physical, but these trackers will also tap into mental and social development by asking you what does your child do at his age. For eg. Your 1 year old should start saying a few words, or point towards thing or recognise family members.

As parents, we're always worried whether our child's development is on track or not. Especially when they're growth and development gets directly compared with a relative or friend's kid, or other kids at their school.

The paranoia is all the more when your kid is a fussy child who refuses to eat much, doesn't sit in one place and overall is a very skinny kid. I basically just described my 20 month old kid. And I'm constantly under the pressure of not only self but family and relatives' comments on his health and weak appearance.

I do try different food options to see if he likes something, but it usually is a failure. Every time I visit his paediatrician I always have the same questions - Is his weight normal, is there any development issues, is there any medicine to increase his weight. And the doctor always answers that your baby is just fine.

But if your child is older and still is lacking behind in overall development, you will obviously be worried and want to do something about it. The world is so competitive nowadays, even for children wherein they're always trying to get a good rank or grade in class, learn a new language or take up a new hobby and so on.

Also, the quality of food - be it fruits and vegetables or be it milk, is highly questionable. You don't know whats pure or whats adulterated, or how much protein or vitamin does the food our child eat actually have?

Fortunately, organic products are on a rise and there is always the option of planting your own vegetables, which is also quite in trend. But organic food is expensive and also not available everywhere, or there isn't always a organic variant, and your child may not like the taste of it. And gardening, well we city dwellers will be blessed to have a small space called as a balcony and maybe grow some lemon or chillies at the most.

But if I was told that I could give my kid a safe nutritional product like Horlicks Growth+ , a specialized nutrition product designed by international pediatric experts for children in age group of 3-9 years who are lagging behind in height and weight, I would not think twice and would definitely give it.

It contains high quality whey protein with added nutrients that are known to enable children to catch up on lost growth. It has been clinically proven for visible growth in children in 6 months. Everyone knows that the growth and development during the childhood days is the most important, hence no stones must be left unturned.

In-fact, not just height and weight, always have a happy, positive and encouraging environment for your child and avoid arguing or fighting or crying or doing anything negative in front of them.
